Fashion Entrepreneurship: C.O.R.E

In my Fashion Entrepreneurship class, my group and I were challenged with developing a business concept that would serve the Richmond community. At the end of the semester, my group would have to create a thorough business plan that included a detailed financial, marketing, and sales plan and pitch the business idea to a group of critics, which paralleled the pressure and format of Shark Tank.

My group researched and collaborated to create C.O.R.E., an athletic womenswear boutique placed in the heart of Carytown, aimed to create a community experience for new mothers.

C.O.R.E’s Mission Statement:

To help you become the best version of yourself.

  • Microsoft Excel, Mintel, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Research, Collaboration, Public Speaking

  • This project placed a strong emphasis on collaboration, so we began by identifying each team member’s strengths and weaknesses. That gave us a clear sense of roles and responsibilities for the semester.

My role focused on researching competitors and suppliers, as well as writing effective copy for our final business plan. I also took the lead on editing my group’s writing to ensure it was cohesive and professional.

It was a large-scale project, and in addition to working closely as a team, we also sought guidance from other professors, which truly elevated the outcome.

  • After months of research and lots of trial and error, we finally presented our project to the class with a solid understanding and real passion for the concept. I learned so much about financial planning along the way, and it honestly gave me a lot more confidence about stepping into the industry.

The project was challenging at times, but it felt so rewarding to see it all come together. To be honest, it was also just really fun! My group made the whole experience way more enjoyable and endearing.
